WESTON, Mass. --  Senior forward Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) notched a double-double effort of 27 points and 16 rebounds as Regis used a 29-4 run over the final 15:13 of action to post a 71-48 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over Mount Ida Saturday afternoon on Higgins Court.

 

Stone netted 23 second half points and became the host Pride's (12-7, 10-1 GNAC) all-time leading scorer in the process, as Regis built a five-point (33-28) halftime advantage only to see the visiting Mustangs (11-7, 4-5 GNAC) use a 16-4 run of their own in the first 4:47 after intermission to grab a 44-42 edge on a three-pointer by senior Patricia Liotta (Hampton Bays, N.Y.).  Stone's lay-in with 4:25 remaining in the third stanza gave the Pride the lead for good and was part of a deciding 13-0 run that staked the hosts to a 57-44 edge in the opening minute of the fourth frame, as Regis outscored Mount Ida by a 17-4 margin in the fourth quarter to pull away with its triumph.

 

Senior Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass.) added 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in the victory for the Pride, which also received 11 points, seven boards and four assists from junior Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.).  Sophomore Sydney Brennan (North Reading, Mass.) added six points and four caroms for Regis, which received four points and six rebounds from sophomore Taylor Iorfino (Monroe, Conn.) along with three points and four boards from junior Maura Russell (Braintree, Mass.).  The Pride shot 44 percent from the field overall and held a 54-35 rebounding advantage on the afternoon while recording 20 assists on 28 made field goals.

 

Sophomore Valerie Martin (Derry, N.H.) registered her fifth double-double performance of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds in the setback for Mount Ida, which received nine points and four assists from senior Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.).  Senior Jaime Moscato (Taunton, Mass.) added eight points for the Mustangs, who received a combined nine points and six boards from Liotta and fellow senior Imani Bumpus (Dedham, Mass.).  The visitors shot just 25 percent (17-67) from the field overall and connected at a 21 percent clip (8-38) from three-point range on the day in seeing their three-game winning streak come to an end.

 

Mount Ida heads to Providence, R.I. on Tuesday evening to take on Johnson & Wales in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference outing that tips-off at 7:00 p.m., while Regis heads to Standish, Maine on Thursday evening to square off with Saint Joseph's (Maine) in a GNAC clash beginning at 6:00 p.m.
