WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Jacy Jones scored an old-fashioned three-point play with 18 seconds left in overtime to give Otterbein University a 69-68 upset win over No. 19 Marietta College Wednesday (Jan. 24) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball.

The Cardinals improve to 10-8 overall and 6-5 in the OAC. The loss drops Marietta to 16-2 on the season and 9-2 in conference games.

Corrie Burkhardt notched a double-double to lead the Pioneers. The junior finished with 13 points, 15 rebounds and five steals. Freshman Marlo Taylor had eight points and grabbed 11 boards. Jenna Andersen, Shay Lett and Laura Pullins all finished with nine points.

Dani Kissel led Otterbein with 17 points. Ali Cartnal had 16 points, while Abbie Scholz finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Marietta was forced to play the final 2:28 of the fourth quarter and all of overtime without playmaker Amisha Herd. The Pioneer senior point guard was whistled for her fifth foul with MC trailing 57-55.

The Pioneers were able to overcome the loss of Herd and force overtime. But struggles at the free throw line proved costly. Marietta was just 3-of-8 at the line in overtime and 18-of-31 for the game.

Lett hit one of two free throws with 39 seconds left in the extra period to give Marietta a three-point lead, 67-64.

On the ensuing possession, Cartnal drew a foul on Burkhardt sending her to the bench with five fouls. Cartnal drained both freebies cutting the MC lead to one, 67-66, with 25 seconds left.

Otterbein was forced to foul and sent Lett back to the charity stripe. Once again, Lett converted one of two for a 68-66 Marietta lead with 22 ticks left on the clock.

The Cardinals called a timeout and advanced the ball into the frontcourt. Kissel launched a three-pointer that was off the mark. But Jones collected the offensive rebound and was fouled as she sank the put back to tie the game. Jones converted the free throw to take the lead.

Marietta got the ball to senior Brooke Borich but her shot was long as the final buzzer sounded.

For the game, Marietta shot 32.4% (23-of-71) from the floor, 23.5% (4-of-17) from three-point range and 58.1% (18-of-31) at the line. The Cardinals were 27-of-67 (40.3%) from the floor, 3-of-16 (18.8%) behind the arc and 12-of-19 (63.2%) at the line.

Marietta edged the Cardinals on the glass, 49-46. The Pioneers turned the ball over 16 times, while Otterbein committed 22 turnovers.

Marietta returns home to host Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday (Jan. 27). Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
