Tobie Hits Milestone as No. 22 Montclair St. Tops Ramapo, 62-44

Montclair, NJ – Senior guard Kate Tobie posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists reaching a milestone along the way as No. 22 Montclair State surged past Ramapo in the second quarter in a 62-44 victory at the Panzer Athletic Center on Wednesday evening.

Tobie became the third player in MSU history to surpass 500 career assists as the Red Hawks extended their winning streak to 15 games. Montclair improved to 17-1 overall while remaining unbeaten in the NJAC at 12-0.

Jenna Harsh scored 16 points for Ramapo (5-14, 2-10 NJAC).

Harsh got the Roadrunners off to a fast start sinking field goals from behind the arc for a 9-3 Ramapo lead three minutes into the game. Montclair got back within 10-8 on a three-pointer by Tobie with 4:13 left. The teams traded the final four field goals of the period with Montclair's Alex McKinnon hitting ahead of the buzzer for a 14-12 Ramapo lead after one quarter.

The Red Hawks exploded in the second quarter outscoring Ramapo 24-2 including the first 12 points. McKinnon knotted the game 27 seconds in with Katie Sire adding a layup giving MSU the lead. Sire hit from behind the arc making the score 20-14 with McKinnon scoring the final four points for a 24-14 advantage with 4:40 left.

Jessica Repassy snapped the run with a field goal however MSU added the last 12 points for a 20-point halftime lead. Freshman Taylor Brown had a pair of triples in the spurt with a fast-break bucket by Taylor Harmon sending Montclair State into the intermission up 36-16.

Tobie recorded eight assists in the first half and then added two more in the third to reaching on the milestone on a cross-court pass to McKinnon, who drained a three-pointer from the left corner. Tobie joined Alice (Schmidt) DeFazio (630 assists) and Wykemia Kelley (537 assists) as the only players to reach the half-millennium mark for assists.

Sire finished with 18 points and seven rebounds for the Red Hawks, whoe got 11 points and three rebounds from McKinnon.

Montclair State is back in action on Saturday, January 27 with a road NJAC contest in Glassboro against Rowan University. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
