#19 Marietta streaks past John Carroll 90-54

MARIETTA, Ohio — No. 19 Marietta College rolled over visiting John Carroll University, 90-54, Saturday (Jan. 20) afternoon in Ban Johnson Arena. The Pioneers improve to 16-1 overall and 9-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Blue Streaks slip to 4-13 on the season and 2-8 in the OAC.

"I am really happy with our effort and intensity today. We have been focusing on rebounding the last few games and it has been showing," Marietta head coach Kole Vivian said. "We had really good ball movement with 20 assists too. When we are this focused, while playing this hard and unselfish, we are a tough team to beat."

Four Pioneers scored in double figures led by senior Brooke Borich's 16 points. Amisha Herd and Corrie Burkhardt scored 15 apiece, while Alexis Enochs finished with 12 points.

Herd, MC's senior point guard, had another all-around great game. In addition to her 15 points, she had seven assists, five steals, five rebounds and blocked two shots. Burkhardt grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Enochs pulled down six boards.

Marietta scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed. The Pioneers led 20-9 after one quarter and 44-22 at halftime.

The Marietta lead reached 40 points in the third quarter and went as high as 42 points early in the fourth period. MC cleared its bench for most of the final period and 13 different Pioneers got in the scoring column against the Blue Streaks.

Marietta's defense held John Carroll without a double-digit scorer. Sarah Sprecher and Nicole Heffington led the Blue Streaks with nine points each. Abby Adler added eight points, while Chelbi Graham grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

For the game, Marietta shot 54.5% (30-of-55) from the floor, 42.1% (8-of-19) from three-point range and 78.6% (22-of-28) at the charity stripe. The Blue Streaks were 17-of-57 (29.8%) from the floor, 7-of-31 (22.6%) behind the arc and 13-of-25 (52.0%) at the line.

The Pioneers outrebounded John Carroll, 48-26. Marietta turned the ball over 28 times, while the Blue Streaks committed 26 turnovers.

Marietta travels to Westerville on Wednesday (Jan. 24) to take on Otterbein University. Tip off in Rike Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
