Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) scored a career-high 30 points including the 1,000th point of her collegiate career to lead The University of Scranton (15-1, 4-1 Landmark) to a thrilling, 98-94 overtime victory over Moravian College (12-4, 2-3 Landmark) in Landmark Conference women's basketball action in the Long Center on Wednesday evening.
Katie Feehery (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) (27 points) and Makenzie Mason (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) (20 points) joined Mann with career-highs as the trio combined for 67 points as the Lady Royals enjoyed their best offensive output in a game since a 100-69 victory over Salem State on December 30, 2004.
Mann, who became the 29th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone, netted her milestone bucket by banking home a short jump shot with 6:37 remaining in the fourth quarter of a tight battle that saw the lead change hands 16 times before the Lady Royals prevailed with their 10th consecutive victory.
Both teams came out strong in a fast-paced opening quarter with Scranton holding a 24-22 edge at the end of the stanza after going 10-14 (71.4 percent) from the field while the Greyhounds went 9-16 (56.3 percent from the floor in the frame.
After the Lady Royals took a 34-30 lead with 4:07 left in the second stanza, Moravian pushed back with a 7-1 surge to take a two point lead, but Scranton netted seven of the final 10 points of the half to take a 42-40 edge into the intermission after Feehery hit a pair of free throws with four seconds left on the clock.
The hosts extended its lead to five points on three occasions in the third period, but were unable to pull away as Moravian cut its deficit to one point, 64-63, heading into the fourth stanza.
The lead changed hands four times in the fourth quarter with the Greyhounds' Maddie Capuano forcing overtime by converting a pair of free throws with two seconds left in regulation.
The two teams swapped the lead three times early in overtime before the visitors took a 94-92 edge with 1:19 showing on the clock. Feehery tied the game with a field goal on the Lady Royals' next possession before putting Scranton ahead for good with a clutch jump shot with nine seconds remaining after a Moravian turnover. Mann iced the game by knocking down a pair of free throws just before the final buzzer sounded.
The Lady Royals enjoyed a 59 percent shooting effort from the floor led by Mason, who went 7-8 from the field including a 4-4 effort from beyond the arc and 2-2 showing from the free throw line. Mann went 9-17 from the field and 9-10 from the charity stripe while dishing out a game-high seven assists. Feehery was 11-17 from the floor and finished with a double-double by pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds while blocking a pair of shots.
Emily Sheehan (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) matched a season-high with 12 points on 5-7 shooting for Scranton which also went 58.8 percent (10-17) from three-point range and 80 percent (16-20) from the line in the victory.
Capuano led Moravian with 27 points and was joined in double-figures by Camille McPherson (18), Karlie Brogan (15), and Nadine Ewald (12).
The Greyhounds, who held a 41-22 advantage on the boards, shot 48.6 percent from the field, 47.6 percent from three-point range, and 82.4 percent from the line in the loss.
The Lady Royals kick off a four-game road trip on Saturday when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Catholic in a Landmark Conference contest starting at 4:00 p.m.
