LOS ANGELES — Alyssa Ramlochan, Shariah Green and the Occidental women's basketball team took care of business on the boards in a 55-53 road win at Whittier on Saturday.
Ramlochan had eight points and 12 rebounds, including nine at the defensive end, and Green had 10 rebounds and four assists. Emily Leonard was a rebound shy of double-figure boards with nine rebounds to go along with her 12 points.
Oxy's rebounding helped it overcome 24 turnovers, many of them coming against Whittier's full court pressure. The Tigers outrebounded the Poets 47-24.
Tala Ismail was outstanding and efficient on offense for the Tigers, scoring a game-high 14 points on 5 for 7 shooting. She also had five rebounds and four assists.
Triana Anderson chipped in 10 and five rebounds for Oxy.
Ramlochan had the go-ahead bucket with 1:04 left in the fourth quarter.
"It was a great team win against a tough SCIAC competitor," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said.
Mia Maglinte and Teani White led the Poets with 12 points each.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in SCIAC play.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Monday against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m. at Rush Gym.
