The 19th-ranked University of Scranton women's basketball team seemingly could not miss on Saturday afternoon, making 11 3-pointers en route to a 78-63 win over Elizabethtown in a Landmark Conference matchup in the Long Center on Saturday afternoon.
Scranton (12-1, 1-1 Landmark) won its seventh straight by hitting 52.9 percent (27-for-51) from the floor, including 11 of 17 (64.7 percent) from beyond the arc. They made 5 of 7 from deep en route to a 39-25 halftime lead, then turned the game into a blowout by making 6 of 10 in the second half before Elizabethtown (7-5, 1-1 Landmark) finished the game on a 9-1 run to make the final margin closer than it looked.
Junior guard Bridgette Mann (Canadensis, Pa./Wallenpaupack) hit five of those 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 21 points. She also had five rebounds and an assist.
Senior guard Katie Broderick (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc en route to 13 points, three assists, two steals and a rebound. In the last three games, she has made 10 of 13 from beyond the arc and is averaging 12.7 points per game.
Sophomore guard Julia Gantz (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) came off the bench to add 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Sophomore forward Makenzie Mason (Downingtown, Pa./Central Bucks West) also had her typical strong all-around game, finishing with 10 points, seven assists, four rebounds and a block.
The Lady Royals won the battle of the boards, 34-24, and made 13 of 16 (81.3 percent) from the free throw line. They also committed just seven turnovers while enjoying a 28-18 edge in points in the paint.
Elizabethtown was led by Mikayla Ruth, who finished with 15 points. The Blue Jays shot 21-for-52 (40.4 percent) from the field, including 7-for-19 (36.8 percent) from 3-point range. They made 14 of 16 (87.5 percent) from the free throw line and also committed just seven turnovers.
The University of Scranton women's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 10, when they travel to Selinsgrove, Pa. to take on Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference game at 7 p.m.
