Platteville uses fourth quarter push to down Stout

PLATTEVILLE (January 3, 2018) - UW-Platteville's 6-4 center Allison Prestegaard scored 27 points and had 13 rebounds, while UW-Stout's 5-5 guard Kyncaide Diedrich scored a career-best 23 points and had eight rebounds. But the Pioneers outscored the Blue Devils 28-18 in the fourth quarter to take an 83-75 conference-opening win Wednesday in Platteville.

Trailing 31-29 at halftime, Diedrich scored nine points in the third period to spark the Blue Devils (7-5, 0-1 WIAC) to a two point 57-55 lead at the end of the period. Diedrich also scored nine points in the final quarter, but the Pioneers (5-7, 1-0 WIAC) outscored Stout 28-18 in the fourth to take the win.

The Pioneers tied the score right away in the fourth quarter, then took a four point, 61-57, lead. A bucket by Bailey Diersen and a 3-pointer by Diedrich gave Stout the lead and the teams traded leads for the next couple of minutes. Platteville again took a four point lead, but Amber Fabeck hit two free throws and Haley Seifert dropped in a buck to tie the game at 68 apiece with four minutes left. The Pioneers went on a 7-0 run and that would be as close as Stout would get.

Diedrich was 8 of 21 from the field, 3 of 7 from 3-point range and hit all four free throw attempts. Prestegaard was 12 of 16 from the floor and 3 of 7 from the line. Pretegaard made it a triple-double with 10 blocked shots. The Pioneers got 16 points from Lexis Macomber and 10 points apiece from Blaire Lutes and Kassie Bucholtz.

Diersen scored 16 points and Fabeck 10 points for Stout. The Blue Devils shot 24 of 80 (30.0 percent) from the floor, while Platteville was 31 of 74 (41.9 percent). Stout connected on 9 of 28 3-pointers to Platteville's 2 of 12. Both teams got a good chunk of points from the line, with Stout going 18 of 20 and Platteville 19 of 27.

Stout will be at UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Jan. 6 at 3 p.m.
