Lohr gets hot early, Marymount rolls past Bobcats to remain perfect in CAC play

More news about: Marymount

FROSTBURG, Md. – Consistent scoring behind the hot hands of sophomore Regan Lohr and senior Nicole Viscuso along with stingy defense pushed the Marymount women's basketball team to one of its largest victories on the season, defeating Frostburg State University, 62-32, on Wednesday night on the road.

With the victory, the Saints move to 10-2 overall while remaining perfect in Capital Athletic Conference play at 5-0. The only other undefeated team in the league is No. 6 Christopher Newport University, who will visit Marymount this Saturday, January 6. The Captains earned an 86-40 decision over Penn State-Harrisburg on Wednesday night on their home court.

The Saints got off to a quick start, carrying a 19-4 advantage through the first 10 minutes of play. Most of those points came from the hot hand of Lohr, who cashed in on 4-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc before cashing in on her fifth long ball less than two minutes into the second period. Her five threes in the contest marks a new career high.

Although the stifling defense by the Saints held the Bobcats to single-digit scoring through the first 13 minutes of play, FSU attempted to get back into the game through the middle part of the second quarter. However, a late run pushed a 32-19 lead for the Saints at the half.

Lohr finished the first half with 15 points to lead the MU attack, all of which were from beyond the arc, while Viscuso added 11 points and six rebounds, three on the offensive end.

The second half was all Marymount, holding the Bobcats to single-digit scoring in each of the last two quarters while racking up 30 more points on the offensive end.

For the game, MU shot 47.4 percent from the floor, while FSU was held to 34.2 percent. On the defensive end, the Saints forced the Bobcats into 30 turnovers including 18 steals led by Lohr with a career-high five. Additionally, the Saints held the league's leading scorer in Victoria Diggs to zero points in her 36 minutes of play.

On the offensive end, Lohr led the way with a game-high 23 points, just two points shy of her career high, while Viscuso added 19. Senior Leah Hurst finished the day with a game-high seven assists to go along with four points, four rebounds and three steals.

The women return home for their clash against the Captains this Saturday in the Verizon Sports Arena. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
