Daytona Beach, FL --- WPI freshman Meg Donovan (Abington, MA) established a new career-high of 12 points on 100 percent shooting from beyond the arc while seniors Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) and Stasha Greenalch (Newington, CT) combined for 13 of the Engineers 22 steals in a 72-24 victory over Wells Wednesday afternoon as part of the Daytona Beach Shootout.
The Crimson and Gray, who were originally scheduled to visit Puerto Rico, improve to 6-2 on the year while the Express slip to 2-8.
Greenalch led all student-athletes with 15 points to go with six assists and six steals as Biney added 12 points, seven steals, five rebounds and three assists. Donovan tied her career high of four rebounds as Sophomore Spencer Vinson (Los Angeles, CA) matched her career-best of six points and shared game-high honors with five boards.
Senior Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, NY) guided the Express with 10 points and three steals. Classmate Kamarie Maturine (Brooklyn, NY) matched Biney and Vincent with five caroms.
The 22 swipes accounted for all but nine of Wells' 29 turnovers which yielded 35 points. WPI also topped the Express' total for the game in fast break points (26) and bench points (27). The final margin of 48 points was also the Engineers output in the paint.
WPI takes on Spalding (KY) tomorrow at 1pm while Wells faces Washington & Lee at 11am.
