RAMAPO DEFEATS CCNY 52-33 IN SEASON OPENER

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team opened the 2017-2018 season with a 52-33 win over visiting City College of New York tonight at the Bradley Center.
 
The Roadrunners (1-0) opened up the first quarter on a 13-0 run before the Beavers (0-1) scored their first basket with 2:08 left in the quarter. Seniors Jina Crawford and Tia Solomon scored back-to-back for Ramapo to open the game up before senior Hannah Cambel drained back-to-back three-pointers to take a 10-0 lead with 4:22 left in the quarter. Sophomore Samantha Rinaldi took a pass from Stacey Porzl and made a three-pointer of her own for a 13-0 lead (2:34) before a jumper from Crystal Blair for CCNY put the Beavers on the board 13-2. Sophomore Jenna Harsh scored the next two baskets for the Roadrunners 16-2 before Debra Chan hit a jumper of her own with 35 seconds remaining in the first quarter for CCNY 16-4.
 
In the second quarter, Ramapo held a ten point lead or more while they extended their lead to 14, 22-8 in the final 26 seconds of the quarter on a jumper from Solomon. CCNY came back during the third quarter, following a basket from Ramapo to take a 16-point lead 24-8, the Beavers went on a 7-2 run capped off with a three-pointer from Madison LaSalle 26-15. Ramapo went on an 8-0 run of their own, extending their lead 34-15 with 1:24 on the clock. Following a pair of made free throws from Crystal Blair, rookie Alie Wickersheim hit back-to-back jumpers for the Roadrunners as they took their biggest lead of the game 38-17 with three seconds left in the third quarter. The Roadrunners led the whole way down the stretch of the fourth quarter. CCNY shrunk the lead to 11 with back to back jumpers from LaSalle and Ashley Brooks before Ramapo went on an 8-0 run capped off with a made basket from Taliah Whitson with just under a minute to play, taking a 50-31 lead. CCNY recorded two made free throws in the final 48 seconds of the game while the rookie Amber Sagan sank two free throws of her own as Ramapo came away 52-33 win.
 
The Roadrunners were led by Solomon who tallied 12 points, three blocks and eight rebounds while Harsh scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench. Cambel tallied seven points, including two three-pointers while Jessica Repasy posted six points, six rebounds and two assists in the win. The team shot 43% (21-48) from the field, 27% (3-11) from the three-point line and 36% (7-19) from the free throw line.
 
Crystal Blair led the Beavers with seven points while Elizabeth Zullo added six points of her own. Ashley Brooks led the team with 11 rebounds while Erica Redwood and Blair each collected eight rebounds of their own. The team shot 14% (9-61) from the field and 48% (14-29) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, November 17th when they host the Roadrunner Tip-Off Tournament. St. Joseph's College Brooklyn will take on Suffolk University at 5:30pm in game one while Ramapo will go up against York College (NY) at 7:30pm.
