Tommie women survive Bethel run, win by 7

Junior guard Lucia Renikoff scored seven of her game-high 17 points in a game-closing 16-9 run that led No. 8-ranked Tommie Women's Basketball to a 72-65 victory over Bethel in Wednesday night's MIAC play at Schoenecker Arena.

While the Tommies (5-1 overall, 2-0 MIAC) never trailed in extending their MIAC win streak to 36 and their home win streak to 17, they survived a monster Bethel run to open the fourth quarter. 

Bethel trailed 52-34 late in quarter three but used a 20-2 run to forge a 54-54 tie. UST closed out the game by making 9-of-10 free throws to cap a 16-9 run over the final 3:08.

UST outscored Bethel 30-12 from behind the arc and outrebounded the Royals 42-31 yet was still pressed until the final moments.

BU pulled within 60-59 with 2:16 to play on Taite Anderson's 3-point basket. The Toms missed a trey and got the offensive rebound, and Renikoff drained a three for a 63-59 lead. The Royals never got closer the rest of the game.

Renikoff has 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. Lauren Fischer added 17 points and seven boards. Hannah Spaulding had 14 points, seven rebunds and three blocks before fouling out. Maddie Wolkow scored 10.

Anderson scored 17 points, and Hannah Johnson contributed 16 points and eight rebounds for Bethel (3-4, 0-2). 

The Toms play at home Saturday against St. Catherine.
