BOSTON, Mass. --  Sophomore Alexis Hackett (Charlton, Mass.) notched a double-double effort of 17 points and 14 rebounds to lead five players in double figures as Suffolk posted an 84-61 Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over Mount Ida Saturday afternoon at Regan Gymnasium.

 

The host Rams (5-2, 2-0 GNAC) used a closing 20-3 run over the final 6:54 of the first quarter to take a 27-7 advantage after the opening 10 minutes of action, and Suffolk extended that margin to 24 points (47-23) at the break while maintaining no less than a 21-point edge in the second half.  Senior Georgia Bourikas (Hull, Mass.) matched Hackett's mark in the scoring column with 17 points, four rebounds and four assists for the winners, who received a double-double effort of 13 points, 10 boards and three assists from freshman Jordan Hipwell (Ballston Spa, N.Y.).  Senior Alexandra Nagri (Salem, N.H.) chipped in with 11 points, four assists and a pair of steals for the Rams, who shot 58 percent (34-59) from the field overall and connected for nine three-pointers on the day.  Suffolk, which blistered the nets at a 63 percent clip in the final 20 minutes of play, held a 45-24 rebounding advantage and scored 29 points off of turnovers to extend its winning streak to three straight.

 

Sophomore Valerie Martin (Derry, N.H.) scored a game-high 26 points and added seven rebounds, five steals and three assists in the setback for the visiting Mustangs (4-2, 0-1 GNAC), who received eight points from freshman Caity Oliver (Oviedo, Fla.) as well as five points and five boards from senior Imani Bumpus (Dedham, Mass.).  Senior Breanna Muir (Wareham, Mass.) added six points and three steals for Mount Ida, which received five points and a pair of steals from sophomore Jessica Cyr (Ashford, Conn.).  Freshman Melody Millett (Naples, Maine) grabbed three caroms for the visitors, who shot 33 percent (20-60) from the floor overall and canned eight three-pointers on the afternoon.

 

Both teams take on Fitchburg State in their next respective contests, as Mount Ida hosts the Falcons on Tuesday evening at the Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m. while Suffolk heads to Fitchburg, Mass. for the non-league outing on Thursday evening that also tips-off at 7:00 p.m.
