Yeshiva Cruises to Skyline Win Over Sarah Lawrence College

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Yeshiva University women's basketball team earned a Skyline conference win over Sarah Lawrence College, on Thursday night at the Campbell Sports Center, by a score of 67-49. Yeshiva now upgrades to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while Sarah Lawrence drops to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in Skyline matchups.

"Proud of the effort by the team tonight," Yeshiva University head coach Michael Alon said. "It was nice to see the team come together."

The first quarter saw several lead changes. The Maccabees trailed by as many as four in the early stages. The turning point came later in the period as Yeshiva went on a 10-1 run, in a span of 3:19, to take a 14-9 advantage. The quarter ended with YU up, 16-11. The Maccabees would not trail for the remainder of the contest.

Yeshiva would begin to pull away in the second quarter, finishing the half with a 33-20 lead. Freshman forward Celia Cohen and junior guard Nicole Bick combined for back-to-back layups to close out the opening stanza. Bick accounted for 14 of the Macs' first half points.

The Maccabees would cruise through the second half, sealing the conference victory, their first since February 12 of last season at Purchase College.

Leading the offensive attack for the Maccabees was Bick, who finished with 19 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists, and forced a steal. Supporting her was senior forward Michal Alge, who scored 16 points and brought down 19 rebounds, for her fifth double-double of the season. She also forced five steals. Cohen nearly achieved a double-double of her own, adding in 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and three steals, which were both career-highs.

Freshman forward Lindsay Brandwein added seven points, six rebounds, and dished out an assist. Freshman guard Chana Boltax scored eight points and grabbed four rebounds. Sophomore guard Laura Betesh scored three points, forced three steals, dished out two assists, and grabbed a rebound. Freshman guard Leah Shulman had a team-high three assists with two steals, while junior guard Penny Rabin blocked a shot and brought down a board. Senior forward Chavi Charlap grabbed a rebound of her own.

The Macs will be back in action on Sunday evening for a Skyline Conference matchup against Mount Saint Vincent at the Peter Jay Sharp Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
