ROCK ISLAND, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team opened the season with a loss at Augustana College on Tuesday night.
Augustana 75, Benedictine 54
• Host Augustana did not trail in the game, improving to 3-0 on the year
• D'Asia Williams evened the game at the 8:10 mark of the opening quarter before Augustana netted seven straight points to move ahead 9-2
• Allison Michalski capped the first quarter with a three-point play to draw Benedictine within 17-13
• Michalski finished the quarter by scoring the final six points
• Andrea Fuoss completed a three-point play at the start of the second as Benedictine pulled within 17-16
• Madisyn Fischer tied the game at 19 with a triple at the 7:49 marker of the second
• Augustana moved ahead by six points before a late spurt pulled Benedictine within a single point on a D'Asia Williams jumper with 2:06 to play in the half
• Benedictine was down by five at halftime and trailed by three midway through the third
• Augustana used a late 8-0 run to stretch the lead to 13 points late in the third
• A run of 11-0 by the hosts put the game out of reach early in the fourth with the lead swelling to 21 points
• Benedictine pulled no closer than 14 points the rest of the way
• Benedictine only reached the free throw line four times, converting on all four tries
• Augustana shot 47.2 percent in the second half to pull away, finishing the game at 37.8 percent
• Benedictine shot 31.9 percent in the contest but were outrebounded 50-44
• Fischer led Benedictine with 11 points off the bench
• Venita Parsons finished with nine points
• Williams tallied nine with Georgia Alexakos tallying seven with eight rebounds
Benedictine (0-1) begins the conference slate with the home opener on Saturday afternoon against Marian University
