KING'S WOMEN RESISTER 77-52 VICTORY OVER KEYSTONE
WILKES-BARRE — Rebecca Prociak equaled her career-high of 19 points and the King's College women's basketball team shot 52.5 percent from the floor as the Lady Monarchs posted a 77-52 victory over visiting Keystone College in King's home opener Tuesday night in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 3-1 while Keystone slipped to 1-3.
King's jumped out of the gates quickly with a 7-1 lead thanks to three points from Prociak and two each by Alexis Steeber and Olivia Hoffman. After a bucket and foul shot from Keystone, King's scored the next eight points to build a 15-3 lead with 2:50 to play in the first quarter after five points by Prociak and a three-pointer from Lindsey Dippre. King's would take a 17-7 lead into the second stanza.
After the teams traded baskets King's used a 14-2 run to build a 33-11 lead with 5:51 to play in the half following a three-pointer from Kayla Dillinger, an inside bucket by Steeber and a driving lay-up from Mackenzie Yori. The Lady Monarchs would eventually take a 42-20 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, King's continued to dominate as the Monarchs put together a 16-4 run, keyed by eight points from Prociak, and four from Hoffman as the lead swelled to 58-24 with 4:22 remaining in the quarter. After Keystone cut the lead to 26 points when a Faith Shiffer three-pointer brought the score to 58-32, King's closed out the period with an 8-1 spurt after four points from Hannah Gallagher and two each by Michael and Rachael DeTore as the Lady Monarchs took 66-33 lead into the fourth quarter.
From there King's coach Caitlin Hadzimichalis removed her starters and was able to utilize the entire roster over the final 10 minutes of play as Keystone drew no closer than 24 points the rest of the way.
Prociak equaled her career high of 19 points set last season against Rutgers-Camden thanks to 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and 7-of-12 from the foul line. Hoffman followed with 12 points, five assists, three blocks and three steals while Gallagher and Dillinger added eight points apiece. Yori contributed six points, five steals, and three assists while Steeber netted six points with three assists. Amber Farnholtz and Michael also chipped in with six points apiece.
King's made 31-of-59 shots from the floor and forced 23 Keystone turnovers. The Lady Monarchs also held a 43-30 rebounding advantage.
The Giants were led by Emily Hutton with 12 points while Bre Moore, and Autum Kitajima added nine points each.
King's will be idle until next Wednesday when the Lady Monarchs host Susquehanna University in a 7:00 PM matchup in Scandlon Gym.
