UMHB women fall to Division I Incarnate Word

San Antonio, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team fought back from a 20-point halftime deficit, but could not overcome a cold shooting night in a 76-58 loss at Division I Incarnate Word Monday night in San Antonio. The Cru women fall to 1-1 with the loss while the Cardinals improve to 1-3 with the victory.

 

UMHB opened the game with a 7-3 run, but Incarnate Word scored the final 15 points of the period as the Cru shot just 3-21 in the quarter. The Cardinals held an 18-7 lead after the first period. Incarnate Word would stretch that lead to 42-22 at halftime. UMHB battled back to close to within 11 points on a couple of occasions in the third period and the Cru pulled to within nine at 62-53 with 7:24 left to play. The Cardinals were able to pull away with a 14-5 run to close the game and hold off UMHB's comeback bid.

 

Hannah Holt had another huge night for the Cru, scoring a game-high 24 points and grabbing six rebounds. Kendall Rollins added 11 points, but no other UMHB player scored more than six. Rollins and Alicia Blackwell had eight rebounds apiece for the Cru to lead all players. UMHB shot just 29 percent from the floor and the Cru turned ball over 25 times.

 

Imani Robinson hit 11-20 from the field to finish with a team-high 23 points for Incarnate Word. Kara Speer chipped in 16 points and Sydnee Wynn had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds. The Cardinals shot 50 percent from the field in the second half and hit 47 percent for the game. UIW also held a slight rebounding edge at 47-46 in the victory.

 

The Cru women return to action with another non-conference road game on Saturday. UMHB will take on Schreiner University in a 6:00 PM start in Kerrville.
