Brooklyn, NY| Senior Andrea Iavarone scored 27 points and eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team's (1-0) season-opening 103-55 victory at Medgar Evers College (0-1) on Wednesday evening.

Now with 1,016 career points, Iavarone and her 23 first-half points powered an SJC squad that scored five players in double digits and broke the program's record for most points in a single game.

Senior Jennifer Gubell shot 5-10 from three and recorded 20 points. Junior N'Dea Maddox and freshman Jami Cardenas scored 16 and 14 points, respectively, in their SJC debuts.

Iavarone grabbed a game-best 12 rebounds to record her first double-double of the season. The forward led the team with 11 last season.

The Golden Eagles took a 60-22 lead into the break and, after scoring 31 points in the third quarter, built an insurmountable 91-33 advantage.

Medgar outscored the guests 22-12 in the fourth quarter, but at the final buzzer it was a 48-point victory for SJC.

The far superior team from the field (46.8%-30.4%) and from three (46.9%-33.3%), St. Joseph's also found success in the paint where it outscored its opponent 34-20.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, November 17 when they face Penn St.-Abington on the first day of the John K. Adams Top-Off Classic at Rutgers-Newark at 7:30 pm. Follow the action live here.
