CANTON, NY (February 10, 2017) — The Vassar College women's basketball team (11-11, 8-5 Liberty) made an incredible comeback to take down St. Lawrence University (8-13, 5-8 Liberty) on the road Friday, 72-70.

Sophie Nick laid in the buzzer-beating layup to give the Brewers their second straight win. The freshman finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. Ariella Rosenthal also finished with 16 points, Isa Peczuh added 15, and Nicole Teta tallied 12 to round out VC's top scorers.

The Brewers shot 46 percent form the floor, 31 percent from distance and 71 percent from the line, while holding the home team to 44, 36 and 43 percent, respectively.

Kaelyn Kohlasch led the Saints with 18 points off the bench, while Shayna Davner added 13 and Cara Waterson had 11.

After six quick lead changes to open the game, the first half remained neck-and-neck, as neither side led by more than two possessions at any given time.

The Saints took their largest lead when Davner hit a jumper and a three-pointer to give the home team a 19-13 lead with 33 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Maeve Sussman pulled the Brewers as close as one, 24-23, in the second stanza, hitting back-to-back jumpers, but they were unable to flip the lead, eventually trailing 37-32 at the break.

The Brewers came out sluggish in the second half, as they were outscored 20-12 in the third period, but they quickly caught fire in the fourth, outscoring the Saints 28-13 the rest of the way.

Vassar trailed by 13 going into the final frame, but Peczuh connected on the first two baskets — a jumper and a triple — to kickstart a 9-0 run, 57-53.

St. Lawrence pushed its lead to nine, 64-55, but the Brewers continued to chip away, outscoring the Saints 17-6 the rest of the way.

Rosenthal pulled within one, 66-65, on a three-pointer at the 1:56 mark, but Kohlasch responded with a triple of her own. The Brewers kept fighting though, as Teta and Sussman hit back-to-back layups with the time winding down.

The Brewers never led in the second half until Nick completed the comeback by flipping in the game-winning layup with three seconds remaining.

Up next, Vassar stays on the road to play at Clarkson University on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m.
