King’s Women’s Basketball Unable to Tame Cougars

LADY MONARCHS DEFEATED AT MISERICORIA

DALLAS, PA --- The Misericordia University women's basketball team built a 29-8 lead after one quarter of play to defeat King's College 80-54 on Wednesday night at the Anderson Center in Dallas.

King's falls to 4-17 overall and 2-9 in conference play while Misericordia improves to 16-6 overall and 9-2 in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom.

The Cougars knocked down four three-pointers in the first three minutes of play to take an early 12-1 lead. Their fifth made three of the quarter gave them a 21-5 lead with 3:16 remaining. After a bucket by Sara Wolbert underneath the basket the Cougars ended the quarter on a 8-1 run to take a 29-8 lead.

The Lady Monarchs started the second quarter strong with a jumper by Olivia Hoffman, a three-pointer from Kasey Seitz, and two made free throws by Kayla Feairheller to cut the advantage down to 14 points at 29-15. However the Cougars responded with a 21-6 run to end the half with a 50-21 lead.

In the second half Rebecca Prociak found Alexis Steeber on a beautiful inside pass for an easy layup. Seitz then knocked down another three to cut the deficit to 53-27 with 7:51 left in the quarter.  Misericordia responded with the next four points to increase their lead up to 30 points. After the teams traded buckets Hoffman scored on a layup and then Prociak knocked down two free throws. The Cougars ended the quarter with a layup and one of two made foul shots to take a 66-37 lead. King's and Misericordia each scored 16 points in the quarter while the Monarchs were led by Prociak who scored eight of her points and grabbed five rebounds in the quarter.

The Lady Monarchs outscored the Cougars in the fourth quarter 17-14 but were never able to cut the lead below 25 points. After shooting 14.3 percent in the first quarter and 25.9 percent in the first half King's shot 33.3 percent in the second half. The Lady Monarchs, however did shoot the ball well from the foul line knocking down 16 of 20 free throw attempts. King's also did a good job holding onto the ball in the second half finishing the game with their second-lowest turnover total of 14 on the season after having eight at halftime.

Rebecca Prociak recorded her fifth double-double of the year with 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead King's. Kasey Seitz added seven points and four rebounds while Olivia Hoffman, Alexis Steeber, and Shae Grim scored six points each.

The Cougars were led by Rachel Carmody with 19 points and Justine Seely with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Japriya Carroll added 12 points and Paige Wampole scored 11. The Cougars held a 54-38 rebounding advantage in the game.

King's will return to the court on Saturday in their final home game of the season when they host DeSales University at 1:00 p.m. at McGrane Gymnasium. The Lady Monarchs will honor the team's three seniors Kayla Feairheller, Shae Grim, and Kasey Seitz and before the game.
