Tigers Win Again, Sitting in Fourth

PASADENA — Tala Ismail scored 19 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out four assists as the Occidental women's basketball team pulled away from Caltech late for a 55-46 road win on Saturday.

Triana Anderson scored 11 points, Shariah Green added 10 and Erin Matsumoto had nine. Emily Leonard chipped in two points and six rebounds, and Midori McElwee scored four points, had four steals and three assists off of the bench.

Oxy never trailed in the game, but the Beavers did manage to tie the game at 52-52 with 8 minutes left. Ismail countered with the next two baskets and Green added another to put Oxy back in front by six and in control of the game.

Grace Peng led the Beavers with 15 points and Kate Lewis added 10.

Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 12-9 overall and 8-4 in SCIAC play. With four games left to play in the SCIAC season, Oxy sits in fourth place, two games back of first.

The top four teams advance to the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Caltech falls to 3-17 and 1-0.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action at Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night. The Regals are one of the three teams ahead of Oxy in the standings, sitting in a tie with Chapman for first at 9-2.
