GETTYSBURG, Pa. Junior Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) set the program record for double-doubles in a season as the Gettysburg College women's basketball team picked up a key Centennial Conference victory with a 56-34 decision over Haverford College Saturday night inside Bream Gym.

Gettysburg (15-5, 11-4 CC) ended a nine-game losing streak to Haverford (15-6, 12-4 CC), which came into the day leading the conference standings. The Bullets forced the Fords into tying or setting season lows for points, three-pointers made (1), free throws made (1), free throws attempted (3), and rebounds (26).

Haverford slid into a first-place tie with Muhlenberg College (15-6, 12-4 CC) for the Centennial lead, with Gettysburg just half a game behind the frontrunners.

Gibbons recorded her 16th double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds, breaking the 25-year old record held by Donna Bourke '92. Four of the junior forward's five buckets were the result of passes from junior Kendra Meredith (Boyds, Md./Northwest), who led the Bullets with 15 points and seven assists. Freshman Emma Hahner (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) added a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.

Sierra Berkel was the lone Haverford player in double-figures with 14 points. She also grabbed 11 boards. Macy Goldbach added nine points and Samantha Wetzel blocked five shots.

Haverford's offense was stagnant to start of the game as the Fords managed just one field goal in the opening 14 minutes of action. Gettysburg turned in the game's first seven points and led 13-2 after one quarter.

The visitors cut the deficit to 16-9 before a putback by Gibbons with 3:58 left in the first half. Meredith knocked down four free throws and Hahner hit a lay-up to extend the lead to 24-9. Haverford trailed 24-11 heading into halftime.

The offense picked up for both squads in the second half, but an opening string of three-pointers padded the advantage for the Bullets. Hahner beat the shot clock with her second trey of the quarter to extend the lead to 21 (38-17) with 4:53 left in the period.

Gettysburg's lead remained at a comfortable advantage for the remainder of the game, dipping to 15 just twice in the early minutes of the fourth quarter. A three-pointer by freshman Kiera Cesareo (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) gave the hosts a 56-32 lead with 1:22 to play.

Gettysburg held a 49-26 advantage on the glass. The Bullets finished 20-of-47 (42.6 percent) from the floor, while holding Haverford to 16-of-62 (25.8 percent).

Sophomore Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) tallied eight points, five rebounds, and three assists for Gettysburg. Cesareo finished with seven points and five boards.
