LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's basketball team responded to a pair of tough losses with a dominating 80-55 win against La Verne at Rush Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Tigers' offense was fantastic throughout the game, shooting 50.8 percent from the field. Emily Leonard provided a spark from off the bench, shooting 7 for 10 from the field and led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points. Triana Anderson was one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 16 points and adding nine rebounds, and Shariah Green chipped in 17 points.

The Leopard's Noelle Cole led all scorers with 20 points. Alexa Withers added 10 rebounds.

After losing the previous two games by a combined four points, the Tigers burst out of the gate with an up-tempo offense. The Leopards took a 6-2 lead within 2:15 minutes of the first quarter. Erin Matsumoto shot a three-pointer to cut the score to 6-5 and sparked a 19-5 run to finish the first quarter. Oxy controlled the game from there.

Season Impact: With five games to play, the Tigers move into fourth at 7-4, in position to make the four-team SCIAC Postseason Tournament and two games back of first place.

Oxy's overall record is now 11-9.

The Leopards fall to 2-17 and 2-8 in SCIAC.

Next Game: The Tigers will play again Saturday at Caltech at 5 p.m.
