SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 27, 2017)  Behind double-doubles from Kim Klunk and Kala-Jewel Freeman, Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Millsaps defeated the Sewanee women's basketball team 75-68, Friday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Majors shot 46.6 percent overall, which included a 43.5 percent mark from beyond the three-point line.

Klunk finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Freeman led the Majors with 17 points and 11 boards. Reserve Megan Donaldson came off the bench and netted 16 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

Out of the gate, Sewanee played well. The Tigers jumped in front 6-1 after early points from Corey Caulder and Bella Taylor.

Midway through the first, the Tigers remained in the lead after back-to-back jumpers from Caulder and Hannah McCormack.

Unfortunately, Millsaps answered back. A layup by Freeman opened a 14-5 Millsaps run over the next five minutes. In fact, after Klunk hit a layup with 5:47 left in the second quarter, the Majors led by five, 24-19.

From there, the score remained close up to halftime. A three by Taylor cut the Majors' lead to six, 33-27, at the break.

After Sewanee opened the third quarter with a turnover, Millsaps went to work. The Majors scored the first nine points of the second half. That helped the Majors take a 42-27 lead with 7:49 left in the third.

From there, Millsaps never looked back. Sewanee had multiple chances to pull back to within singles digits after the Majors build their lead to as much as 21 points, however, each Tiger run was answered.

Unlike Millsaps, Sewanee's offense struggled. The Tigers shot only 36.8 percent from the field. Additionally, 16 Sewanee turnovers led to 26 Major points.

Individually, Taylor paced the purple and gold with 21 points and six rebounds. McCormack added 10 points, four rebounds, five assists, and two steals while Savannah Rose pitched in 11 points

Sewanee will now look to snap its recent losing streak with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Birmingham-Southern, Sunday.
