ANGOLA, Ind.—The Trine women's basketball team cruised past Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent Saint Mary's, 103-42, on Wednesday evening in Hershey Hall.
The Thunders' 103 points marks the first time it has scored over 100 points since 2005. Fourteen players scored for Trine, including five double-digit performances. The Trine bench contributed 51 points.
Trine improves to 16-2 overall and 9-1 MIAA. Saint Mary's moves to 1-17 and 0-10 in conference action.
Hayley Martin (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) led the Thunder with 16 points and eight rebounds. Junior Jayde Abenth (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) scored a career-high 13 points going three-for-three from the three-point line. Cassidy Williams (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold), Taylor Cole (Mt. Pleasant, Mich./Shepherd) and Katy Steers (Portage, Ind./Portage) all added 10 points each. Williams and Steers each recorded career highs in steals with five and four, respectively. Katie Kline (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) and Jazlyn Needler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Churubusco) also added career highs in points with four a piece.
Trine shot 53.5 percent from the floor and held Saint Mary's to 25 percent. The Thunder scored 36 points off turnovers and had 52 points from the paint.
The Belles were led by Gabby Diamond with 15 points and six rebounds. Ally Steve added 11 points and five rebounds. Kelsey Ronan grabbed six rebounds.
The Thunder will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 when it will welcome Albion to Hershey Hall. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.
