Cougars Surge Past Rockford Behind 57 First Half Points

More news about: Concordia-Chicago

January 24, 2017- The Concordia-Chicago women are coming off an impressive win against Lakeland from the past Saturday.  The Cougars looked to continue their hot run in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference as they hosted Rockford tonight.  Winners of seven out of their last eight conference games, including a record setting 100 point outburst at Rockford, CUC knew that the Regents would bring the fight as they nearly knocked off Concordia-Wisconsin in their last game.  In the end, the Cougars repeated their first-half performance from Saturday, putting up 57 first half points leading to an easy 92-62 victory over Rockford.

Two minutes into the first quarter the Cougars jumped out to an 11-0 lead forcing three Rockford turnovers, highlighted by two easy lay ups from Taylor Jacobsen and a Miranda Rogers three that forced an early Regents timeout.  Concordia-Chicago continued the momentum through the middle of the first as the Cougars did not miss from the field.  Freshman Crystal Corr, who has been inserted into the starting lineup the last couple games started 3-3 from the field and dominated the paint.  The Cougars set a school record with 35 points in the first quarter as they shot a staggering 70% from the field and 46% from three to build a 21 point lead at the end of one.

Second quarter the Cougars got off to a 7-2 run behind the precise passing of junior guard Courtney Lofink and the lights out shooting of Lauren Orr.  Midway through quarter, teams were trading baskets as Rockford couldn't get in any sort of rhythm shooting.  CUC went into halftime shooting at a ridiculous 64% from the field, much like last game against Lakeland.  The Cougars had a very balanced score sheet as five players had 7 points or more including all five starters that gave CUC a 57-31 lead at halftime.

Concordia-Chicago didn't let halftime let their shooting go cold.  CUC was able to build up their lead to thirty, their largest lead of the game.  Rockford had no answer for the tenacious press that the Cougars put on.  The Regents couldn't find an easy shot as they were forcing up jump shots and the Cougars weren't letting them get any second chance opportunities.  Behind the balanced scoring from the Cougars, CUC managed to extend their lead to 79-35 after three quarters of play.

The fourth quarter proved much of the same as the Cougars went deep into their bench to close out the game.  On the night, everything was clicking for the Cougars.  After getting a big lead, CUC would not let there be a letdown in the fourth quarter as there was against Lakeland.  Concordia-Chicago was able to coast to an easy victory by the score of 92-62.

The Cougars were led by T.Jacobsen would had 22 points (8-11), followed by Lofink who turned in her usual all great game with 13 points (6-8), 9 assists, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals.

The Cougars did not trail in the game as they set the tone right from the beginning.  CUC used their press to allow them to shoot a fantastic 50% from the field and hold Rockford to shoot 33%.

The Cougars (11-6, 10-4 NACC) return to action Friday afternoon as they head to Seward, Nebraska to take on Concordia University Ann-Arbor as part of the Concordia Invitational Tournament.  Tip off is set for 1:00pm.
