CLAREMONT — Shariah Green was a rebound shy of a double-double, Tala Ismail filled up the stat sheet and the red-hot Occidental women's basketball team inched closer to first place with a 72-43 victory at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
Green, a 6-foot-2 first year from Hillsboro, scored a game-high 16 points, on 7 for 10 shooting, and grabbed nine rebounds. She is currently ranked in the top 10 in the SCIAC in minutes per game (33.2), points per game (13.5), field goal percentage (47.7) and rebounds per game (7.6).
Ismail, a first year from Pasadena, scored 11 points, had five rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Oxy junior guard Triana Anderson scored 12 points and senior guard Erin Matsumoto added nine. Kendahl Wallis-Lang gave Oxy a spark off the bench with eight points.
Kacie Hitomi led Pomona-Pitzer with 11 points.
Season Impact: Oxy has won six of its last seven games, improving to 10-7 overall and 6-2 in SCIAC play. The Tigers are sitting in second, tied with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, a half game back of first-place Cal Lutheran (6-1).
Pomona-Pitzer falls to 0-15 and 0-7.
Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday against Redlands at home at 7 p.m.
