GENESEO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team was unable to find an answer for No. 23 SUNY Geneseo, as the Cardinals fell, 66-46, to the Knights in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest Saturday afternoon at Schrader Gymnasium.
 
Sophomore guard Bella DePasquale (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) led the Cardinal attack with 10 points, while freshman guard/forward Olivia Souky (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) added eight. Senior guard Moe Jones (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) and freshman guard Sarah Bonner (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) each handed out three assists.
 
For Geneseo, senior guard Katie Durand, sophomore forward McKenna Brooks and senior guard Kayleigh Cavanaugh paced the offense with 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Plattsburgh State drops to 8-8 overall (4-6 SUNYAC) with the loss and next hosts SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. Geneseo rises to 17-0 overall (10-0 SUNYAC) with the win and next hosts Buffalo State on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m.
 
Geneseo led wire-to-wire, opening up a 14-1 lead before claiming a 16-6 advantage through 10 minutes of play. After the Knights scored the first basket of the second quarter, the Cardinals netted four unanswered points, with a Souky free throw pulling the visitors within 18-10. Geneseo swelled its lead as high as 16 in the quarter and entered the locker rooms with a 38-22 cushion.
 
Though the Knights led by as many as 20 points late in the third quarter, DePasquale hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the Cardinals within 50-36 with 1:07 left in the period. Geneseo hit a pair of free throws to enter the final stanza up 52-36, and it put the game out of reach with a 10-0 run to start the fourth.
 
Geneseo shot 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the floor and 73.3 percent (22-of-30) from the line on the game while holding a 49-34 edge in rebounds. Both teams committed 12 turnovers, while the Cardinals shot 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from distance.
