(GROVE CITY, Pa.) – First-year forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) scored a career-high 17 points to lead the No. 5-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to an 86-43 win over Grove City College today (Saturday, January 21, 2017) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Grove City College Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 17-0 overall and 10-0 PAC. With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 9-8 overall and 5-5 in the PAC.
Thomas More led 27-13 after one quarter and out-scored the Wolverines 20-8 in the second quarter to build a 47-21 lead at halftime. The Saints out-scored Grove City 25-12 in the third to extend the lead to 72-33 after three quarter before cruising to the 86-43 victory.
The Saints shot 53.2 percent from the field (33-of-62), including 50 percent from behind the three-point arc (six-of-12). Thomas More also shot 87.5 percent from the free-throw line as it connected on 14-of-16 shots at the charity stripe. The Saints out-scored Grove City 44-20 in the paint, 23-6 off turnovers, 15-9 on second chance points and 21-11 on fast break points.
Joining Schultz in double-figures was junior forward Nikki Kiernan (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 15 points, junior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 14 points and sophomore guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with 12 points. Kiernan and sophomore forward Shelby Rupp (Milan, Ind./Batesville) led the team on the boards with seven rebounds each, while Temple led the team in assists with six and steals with three.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (January 25) when it hosts Thiel College at 5:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
