BRUNSWICK, Maine – The No. 2/2 Amherst College women's basketball team used a game-high 15-point effort from Ali Doswell '17, and the Purple & White held a commanding, 42-18 advantage at intermission en route to a 66-45 win over Bowdoin College in Friday evening's NESCAC contest in Brunswick, Maine.

With the win, Amherst remains unbeaten and improves to 16-0 on the season, 4-0 in league play, while Bowdoin moves to 12-3 overall, 2-2 in conference action. The Purple & White return to action Saturday, Jan. 21 when they travel to Colby College for a 3 p.m. tilt.

Amherst raced out to quick, 11-0 lead in the first quarter as Emma McCarthy '19 scored six of the first eight points during the Purple & White's early surge. Meredith Doswell '17 added a layup, while Ali Doswell swished a trey to complete the run, before Bowdoin got on the board with an Emily Campbell free throw at the 6:18 mark. The Polar Bears rallied to within six when Lydia Caputi hit a jumper to make it 17-11 with 2:02 to play in the stanza, but Jaimie Renner '17 cashed in a triple with seven seconds on the clock to give Amherst a 20-11 lead after 10 minutes of play.

Another hot start to the quarter gave Amherst a 28-11 lead as Madeline Eck '20 powered in back-to-back layups, before Ali and Meredith Doswell each scored a bucket to give the Purple & White a 17-point cushion. Bowdoin managed just seven points in the second quarter while Amherst netted 22, highlighted by three-pointers from Ali Doswell and Eck to help build the 42-18 halftime lead.

A back-and-forth third frame saw both teams score 12 points, as Hannah Hackley '18 led Amherst with four points, while Ali Doswell delivered another trey. Caputi hit all three of her field goals in the third quarter en route to seven points.

In the final stanza, Eck came off the bench and scored seven points, highlighted by a 3-for-4 effort from the field. Ally Silfen and Cordelia Stewart provided four points each, while Sam Roy struck from beyond-the-arc for the Polar bears. Despite being edged, 15-12 in the fourth quarter, Amherst was able to see out the 66-45 win.

BY THE NUMBERS

• Ali Doswell led all players with 15 points on 6-for-13 shooting from the floor including three treys, while McCarthy finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Meredith Doswell collected eight points and a game-best nine boards, while Eck was superb off the bench with 14 points.
• Jackie Nagle '17 also made a stellar impact in reserve for the Purple & White, netting seven points and tying for the game-high in rebounds with nine.
• Hackley finished with eight points and four boards, while Ali Doswell, and Eck picked up four rebounds each. Renner dished out seven assists in the winning effort, while Meredith Doswell swatted four shots.
• Bowdoing was led by Caputi and Campbell who scored 11 points each in defeat, while Silfen and Stewart with four points each. Campbell also added a team-best four rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Ali Doswell has now scored 1,365 career points to rank second on the program's all-time points list. She is just 48 points shy of tying the record (1,413) set by Liz Garner '89.
