North Dartmouth, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women's basketball team fell to UMass Dartmouth, 84-49, in a Little East Conference contest played at The Tripp Center on Wednesday evening.

Senior guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) paced RIC (5-11, 2-4 LEC) with 19 points and four rebounds. Freshman guard Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, MA) was also in double figures with 14 points and two rebounds. Junior guard Jessa Rubera (Newton, MA) added nine points, three assists and three steals in the setback.

UMass Dartmouth (13-3, 4-2 LEC) was led by senior guard Rachel McCarron (Groton, MA) with 20 points and four rebounds. Sophomore forward Nakira Examond (New Bedford, MA) tallied a double-double off the bench with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while junior forward Alicia Kutil (Franklin, MA) also recorded double figures with 17 points and six boards in the victory.

UMass Dartmouth took control of the game early and had its first double figure lead when a three-pointer by McCarron put the score at 15-4 with 6:22 left in the first quarter. The host Corsairs pushed the lead to 27-10 at the first intermission.

The Anchorwomen responded in the second quarter and cut the deficit down to single digits after a layup from Gauvin with 3:22 remaining in the quarter made the score 33-24. That would be as close as RIC would get in the half, however, as UMD took at 39-26 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

UMD opened the third quarter on a 19-2 run, capped by a layup by Kutil, to take a 58-28 advantage with just under five minutes left to play in the stanza. The Corsairs held a 70-38 lead after three quarters of action and cruised to the win.

RIC shot 29.4 percent (15-of-31) from the field, 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from behind the three-point stripe and 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the free throw line. UMass Dartmouth shot 43.5 percent (30-of-69) from the field, 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from beyond the three-point line and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the free throw line.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College continue Little East Conference play at Plymouth State on Saturday, Jan. 21 (1 p.m.).
