BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team handed Oglethorpe University its first Southern Athletic Association loss of the season Friday night. The Panthers won 64-55 to improve to 9-6 on the year and 4-0 in SAA play. Oglethorpe dropped to 9-6, 3-1 SAA with the loss.
Emilee Olsen (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter HS), Camillia Carter (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown HS) and Jothani Dixon (Tuscumbia, Ala./Deshler HS) led the Panthers in points. Olsen finished with a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Carter and Dixon earned 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Panthers trailed 29-28 at the break. The teams went back and forth early in the third quarter. But BSC took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Kaitlin Hogan (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) with 6:55 left in the third.
The Panthers remain home for their next contest. They take on Berry College in doubleheader with the men on Sunday, Jan. 15. The women tipoff at 1 p.m. and the men follow at 3 p.m.
