Old Westbury Defeats FSC in Conference Matchup

Old Westbury - 66, Farmingdale State - 46


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team played host to Old Westbury in their first game at the newly renovated Nold Hall Athletic Complex this evening and fell, 66-46.

Tied 2-2 five minutes into the game, the Panthers (10-2, 4-2 Skyline) used a 7-0 run to open up a 9-2 advantage. After a Kaelyn Ward (East Hampton, N.Y.) jumper and Tyra Harrison (Baldwin, N.Y.) 3-pointer cut the FSC (5-5, 4-2 Skyline) deficit to two, OW closed the quarter with five straight points to go ahead, 14-7.

The Panthers extended the advantage to 23-9 with 3:41 left in the half and each team scored five points the remainder of the quarter as OW went into the break leading, 28-14.

With 4:16 left to play in third and the Panthers ahead 38-25, a quick 4-0 Farmingdale State run cut the deficit to nine, 38-29.

Old Westbury entered the fourth quarter leading 48-37 and used back-to-back Ruth Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.) layups to take a 15-point advantage, 52-37. The Panthers held a double-digit lead the rest of the game en route to the 66-46 Skyline Conference victory.

Harrison recorded a team-high 18 points and added five assists for the Rams.

Old Westbury was led by senior guard Jasmine Robinson's (White Plains, N.Y.) game-high 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting. The Panthers had four players with double-digit rebounds in the victory.

The Rams next will host #2 Amherst in a non-conference game tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
