ATLANTA (Jan. 8, 2017) – Despite four starters in double figures, the Sewanee women's basketball team could not complete a strong comeback, Sunday, as Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Oglethorpe held on for a 74-69 victory inside Dorough Field House.

Down by as much as 13 points with 9:35 left in the third quarter, Sewanee rallied back by the start of the fourth quarter. Over the remaining time in the third, a layup by Savannah Rose opened the run. Rose scored nine straight points before eight straight from Corey Caulder pulled Sewanee to within one, 42-41.

Sophomore Bella Taylor then hit a layup that pushed Sewanee in front. From there, both teams traded the lead before a pair of Lauren Ransom free throws tied the score at 50-50.

In the final 10 minutes, Oglethorpe took the lead back when Ransom made a layup. From there, the Stormy Petrels never trailed again. Sewanee pulled to within a possession multiple times, however, OU answered.

The Tigers trailed by three, 72-69, after Sue Kim scored. However, after OU called timeout, Ransom capped off an amazing performance with a layup with two seconds to play. That sealed the final score.

Both teams played well on offense. Sewanee connected on 45.9 percent of its shots while Oglethorpe made 45.8 percent of its attempts.

Individually, Caulder led the Tigers with 18 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. Rose and Taylor each added 14 points while Kim pitched in 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Ransom led OU and all players with a game-high 29 points to go along with 10 rebounds.

Bailey Charles added 10 points while Alexandria Brown finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Sewanee continues SAA play with a 6:00 p.m. contest against Hendrix, Friday.
