FRANKLIN, IND. – Sophomore guard/forward Beth Schaefer (Fort Wayne, Ind.) resumed an impressive four-game stretch Wednesday, Jan. 4, highlighting a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference clash against Franklin College.
Schaefer, who's seen her first collegiate double-double in the span, nearly added a second at the Spurlock Center. She finished with 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and managed to dish out three assists which tied a single-game personal career best. Senior guard Jenifer Lee (Rockville, Ind.) nearly joined her underclasswoman teammate in double-figure scoring with eight points, while junior forward/center Samantha Bolen (Greenwood, Ind.), despite seeing her four-game streak of double-digit point outings ended, managed seven points, four rebounds and a blocked shot. Fellow junior inside mate Torrie Christlieb (Culver, Ind.) also tallied seven points and four rebounds.
MU, dipping to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference, kept it close early against the host Grizzlies. However, FC, moving to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the HCAC, went on a key 7-0 run midway through the first period and continued to build the advantage throughout the night before winding up with a 59-41 decision.
The Black and Gold returns home Saturday, Jan. 7, as preseason league favorite Rose-Hulman comes to Stauffer-Wolfe Arena for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
