Greencastle, Ind. - Five Tigers scored in double figures as 19th-ranked DePauw collected its 10th straight win and improved to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 70-59 win over visiting Ohio Wesleyan. The Battling Bishops dropped to 4-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Ohio Wesleyan got out to as much as a five-point lead and held a 13-10 advantage before the Tigers scored the final 12 points of the opening quarter, including 10 from Emily Budde, to take a 22-13 lead at the quarter break.
Claire Ryan, Kylie Morris and Sydeny Kopp opened the second with buckets to cap an 18-0 run and push the lead to 28-13.
The Battling Bishops scored the final five points of the second quarter to trim the halftime deficit to 36-27.
After Megan Kuether opened the second half with a layup, the Tigers countered with three straight scores from Taylor Howard, Ryan and Maya Howard to make it 43-29. Maya Howard's three-point play with 4:24 left in the quarter gave DePauw its largest lead of the game at 55-33.
The Battling Bishops outscored DePauw, 12-2, to cut the Tigers' lead to 57-45 after three quarters. Elea Karras knocked in a three with 8:06 left in the game to make it 58-50, but Maya Howard and Ryan followed with buckets to push the margin back to double digits where it stayed the rest of the way.
Maya Howard led the Tigers with 18 points followed by Taylor Howard with 14. Ryan and Morris each added 11 with Budde chipping in 10.
Kuether paced Ohio Wesleyan with 29, while Karras added 20.
Melinda Franke led the Tigers with nine rebounds as DePauw held a 36-29 edge on the boards and a 13-4 advantage in second-chance points. Nicole Popovich hauled down nine for the Battling Bishops.
Kopp led DePauw with four assists and Maya Howard had three steals.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Kenyon at 1 p.m.
