Senior Kaitln Langer posted her 19th career double double with 24 points and 12 rebounds and the host and No. 4-ranked Tommies extended two long winning streaks in Wednesday night's 71-62 defeat of Bethel in MIAC women's basketball play in Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies (11-0 overall, 5-0 MIAC) won their third game in seven days, over three teams with a combined 30-6 record. They pushed their regular-season win streak to 23 and their conference victory streak to 19.
Bethel (9-3, 4-1) fell behind 9-0 in the first 6:00 but trailed just 35-26 at halftime.
St. Thomas built a 19-point lead late in quarter three. The Toms still led 63-47 with 7:05 to play before the Royals used an 11-1 run to cut the deficit to six at 64-58 with 2:32 remaining.
UST countered with a 7-2 run over the next 2:00 to ice the victory, started with a layup and two free throws by Langer.
The UST starters outscored Bethel's first five, 64-36. The Toms had a 44-33 rebounding edge. Lauren Fischer had 14 points and nine rebounds, Gabby Zehrer scored 12 points, and Paige Gernes had 11 points.
Hannah Johnson came off the bench to contribute 16 points, 11 boards and three blocks for Bethel. Taite Anderson added 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
