WORCESTER – Junior Brenna LeGacy (Attleboro, MA) scored 18 points to lead Babson past host WPI, 65-47, in a NEWMAC women's basketball matchup Wednesday night in Harrington Auditorium.

The Beavers (9-2, 4-0 NEWMAC) get back in the win column while the Engineers (11-2, 3-1 NEWMAC) see their 11-game winning-streak snapped. It was the first time the teams have met since last season's NEWMAC championship, a one-point decision in favor of the Crimson and Gray.

LeGacy and senior Giovanna Pickering (Hull, MA), the NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week, each scored six points as Babson doubled up the hosts 16-8 after one. The second quarter saw sophomore Elizabeth Lane (Skaneateles, NY) tally eight of her 10 first half points as the Beavers built as much as a 15-point lead with just under three minutes remaining. WPI enjoyed its only lead thanks to a bucket by senior Sarah Rogers (Colchester, CT) at 6:44 of the first. The Engineers kept the deficit under 20 until late in the third courtesy of a LeGacy jumper with 39 seconds left in the third. She added six more in the fourth.

In addition to Pickering, the game featured all three reigning NEWMAC weekly honorees including the co-defensive players of the week. Babson senior Jennifer Narlee (Medfield, MA) hauled in nine rebounds, scored six points, and handed out a pair of helpers while WPI junior Ama Biney (Worcester, MA) came up with four rebounds, 11 points, three steals, an assist and a block.

Senior Priscilla Dunphy (Barrington, RI) led the Engineers with a dozen points and two blocks. Classmate Tess Nogueira (Merrimac, MA) totaled three assists.

Babson also had Lane (12), senior Taylor Russell (Braintree, MA) (11) and Pickering (10) with double-digit points. Pickering also contributed with eight rebounds and six assists as Russell accounted for three of the Beavers six swipes.

WPI continues its homestand with a 2pm appointment with Coast Guard on Saturday while Babson returns home to take on Mount Holyoke at 1pm.
