Ithaca Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Alfred, 92-58

Ithaca scored the game's first 20 points before Alfred got on the board with a pair of free throws with 2:27 left in the opening quarter. The Bombers forced 17 turnovers over the first 10 minutes en route to a 23-3 advantage.

Senior Shayna Gaskins scored six points on 3-of-5 shooting, while classmate Erin Ferguson chipped in four points and four rebounds.

The Bombers led by as many as 28 points midway through the second quarter, 35-7, and ended the half with a 46-20 cushion. Of the 46 points scored by Ithaca, 27 of those came from the bench.

Sophomore Allie Tunick contributed six points in the second quarter, while junior Jordan Beers tallied three steals, three assists and two points in the frame.

Ithaca finished the first half shooting 18-for-40 from the field, on 13 assists, and went 8-for-10 at the free throw line.

As the third quarter came to a close, the Bombers increased their lead to 72-41 and ended the contest with a 34-point difference at 92-58.

Yacovoni led the way offensively with 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting to go along with five rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists. Ferguson wrapped up the game with 10 points and seven boards, while Gaskins netted 12 points and pulled down five rebounds.

Tunick and O'Malley each contributed 11 points. Beers added eight points, four boards, four assists and three steals.

Sophomore Meghan Mazzella notched seven points with three rebounds, while senior Allison Spaschak scored five points. Sophomore Sara Jackson and Meghan Pickell both chipped four points. Sophomore Annie Giannone handed out five assists, while freshman Mia Herlan had four rebounds and two points.

The Bombers shot 50.7-percent (37-for-73) overall and assisted on 27 baskets. Ithaca also outrebounded Alfred, 42-29.

Ithaca is back in action on Saturday as the Bombers travel to Hartwick College for a 2 p.m. tipoff in Oneonta.
