Gettysburg (7-3) featured four players in double-figures led by Sally Mussleman Most Valuable Player Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School). Gibbons posted her seventh double-double of the season with game highs of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Sophomore Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) added 15 points and seven rebounds on the way to being named to the All-Tournament Team.
Junior Kendra Meredith (Boyds, Md./Northwest) added 14 rebounds and five assists, while freshman Ashley Gehrin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) tallied a season high 10 points to go with seven rebounds.
Gettysburg captured its tournament for the third consecutive season. The Bullets also won in 2008, 2010, and 2011. The event was not held in 2014.
St. John Fisher (3-6), which received bids to the NCAA Division III Championship in each of the last two seasons, took a 9-6 lead on a three-pointer by Erin Hulbert at 5:12 of the first quarter. Gettysburg came right back with a 10-0 run and led 16-11 after the opening quarter.
After a slow start to the second period, the momentum eventually swayed in favor of the hosts. A pair of free throws by Gibbons made it a 10-point advantage (26-16) and a free throw by Meredith put the score at 29-20 heading into halftime.
The lead remained nine when freshman Emma Hahner (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) grabbed an offensive rebound and converted the putback and ensuing free throw to make it 38-26 with 5:19 to go in the third. Consecutive lay-ups by Meredith, Dorshimer, and Gibbons pushed the advantage to 50-32 entering the fourth quarter.
Two more lay-ups by Meredith and Gibbons at the start of the first period pushed the lead to 22 points and it would dip below 20 only once more in the remaining time.
Gettysburg connected on 38.2 percent (26-of-68) of its field-goal attempts, while also out-rebounding St. John Fisher 47-37. The Bullets out-scored the Cardinals in the paint (48-26) and in second-chance points (16-2).
Nicole Robinson led St. John Fisher with 12 points and 11 rebounds and was tagged to the All-Tournament Team.
In Tuesday's first contest, Juniata College (8-4) used a dominant second-quarter to get by Swarthmore College (1-9) 68-48. The Eagles held a 21-5 scoring advantage in the second quarter as the Garnet shot just 1-of-18 from the floor.
Dani Atkinson turned in a dozen points for Juniata on the way to All-Tournament honors. Kayla Sembly paced Swarthmore with 11 points, while Maggie O'Neil earned All-Tournament status after posting eight points and four rebounds against Juniata.
Gettysburg hosts Swarthmore for a Centennial Conference match up this Saturday at 1 p.m.
