No. 11 Montclair St. Cruises Past Regis in Las Vegas Hoopla

Las Vegas, NV – Junior Taylor Harmon scored 13 points and spear headed an outstanding defensive effort as No. 11 Montclair State powered to a 70-28 victory over Regis College in the Las Vegas Hoopla on Wednesday afternoon.

Zoe Curtis added 12 points and six rebounds Montclair State moved to 11-0 on the season. MSU allowed less than 30 points in a game for the fourth time in the last 16 years and it was the fewest it has given up since a 74-25 win at home against New Jersey City last season.

Montclair trailed just once, 6-4 after Mikayla Murphy hit the second of two foul shots. Montclair State ripped off the next 11 points to take control of the contest. Harmon scored on a three-point play to put the Red Hawks up and baskets by Curtis and Yazmine Lacey made the score 11-6 with 2:40 to play. Harmon added the next two buckets extending the lead to nine points before Regis snapped a six-minute scoreless stretch on a foul shot with 46 seconds remaining.

A 10-point run in the second quarter widened MSU's lead. Leading 19-9, Sage Bennett finished off a break to begin the spurt and a three-pointer by Rachael Krauss with 7:25 to go made the score 26-9. Katie Sire finished off the run with a three as Montclair took a 33-16 lead into halftime.

Bennett and Kate Tobie each had eight points and four rebounds with Tobie handing out six assists. Domonique Wirsing also scored eight points, all of them coming in the fourth when MSU outscored Regis 18-5. Sire chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.

Montclair State is now off until Monday, January 2 when it hosts SUNY Cortland at the Panzer Athletic in a 6:00 pm tip off.
