No. 11 Montclair St. Rolls to Victory in Las Vegas, 81-31

Las Vegas, NV – Three players scored in double figures and 12 different Red Hawks found the scoring column as No. 11 Montclair State rolled to an 81-31 victory over St. Mary's College (IN) in the Las Vegas Hoopla on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Zoe Curtis had 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals as the Red Hawks built a 13-points lead after one quarter in improving to 10-0 on the season.

MSU led from tip to final buzzer and scored the first five points of the game as Katie Sire and Kate Tobie each scored in the first 34 seconds of the game. A three pointer by Megan Will later cut the Red Hawks lead to 11-10 before MSU closed out the quarter with a 16-4 run.  

Curtis opened the run with back-to-back three-pointers and later hit two from the line making the score 19-12 with 2:22 to play. Alex McKinnon scored 26 seconds later with Rachael Krauss hitting twice from behind the arc for a 27-14 advantage.

Montclair blew the game open in the second with a 23-4 quarter that included a nine-point run to open the period. Tobie began the spurt with a free throw and a fast-break layup 90 seconds in extended the lead 32-14. Sage Bennett added a layup and jumper by Sire with just over five minutes remaining put MSU up 36-14. Kiarra Dillard and Curtis added three pointers as the Red Hawks went into halftime up 50-18.

Tobie and Krauss each had 10 points with Sire, Dillard, McKinnon all scoring eight points apiece. Yazmine Lacey contributed six points, five rebounds and three assists. Tobie handed out six assists with Sire getting five assists and five steals.

Montclair State faces Regis College in its final game of 2016 on Wednesday, December 21 at 3:00 pm EST.
