LOS ANGELES — Triana Anderson finished off an incredible performance with the game-winning layup as the Occidental women's basketball knocked off defending SCIAC Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 52-51 at Rush Gymnasium on Saturday.

Trailing by one with a 5-second differential between the shot clock and game clock, and 10 seconds to play, the Tigers defense forced CMS into an air ball. Dru Ishibashi secured the rebound and passed it ahead to Tala Ismail, who made a perfect pass to Anderson for a lay up with 1 second on the clock, sending the crowd and Oxy bench into a frenzy. The Tigers contained the ball and CMS' desperation heave was well short as the buzzer sounded.

It's the first time the Tigers have beaten CMS since Feburary of 2013.

Anderson scored a game-high 22 points on 10 for 11 shooting, including the last four points of the game and 16 in the first half.

"Tri was outstanding tonight," Oxy head coach Anahit Aladzhanyan said. "We played hard the entire game, we played together and gutted out a great win against a very good team."

The Tigers were able to overcome a four-point deficit with 5:44 to play despite struggling on the defensive glass in the fourth quarter.

Green scored all of her seven points in the fourth, including a put-back lay up that cut the CMS lead to 49-48 with 1:23 remaining. After CMS added a basket, Anderson brought it back to one with a pair of free throws.

Cheldon Alcantara scored eight points for Oxy, going 2 for 3 from beyond the three-point line. Erin Matsumoto added eight points and Shariah Green and Tala Ismail each chipped in seven.

The Tigers defense forced the Athenas into 18 turnovers.

Claire Donnelly led CMS with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in SCIAC play. CMS falls to 4-4 and 0-1.

Next Game: The Tigers travel to Hawaii for two games starting on Dec. 19 against Whitman College. The Tigers play North Central (Ill.) in their second game on Dec. 20.
