Golden Bears claw their way past Bison, 78-58

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Amy Assad (Millis, Mass.) posted 15 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in Nichols College's 78-58 loss at Western New England University Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

Junior Allison Cerrato (Rockland, Mass.) collected 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists while senior Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds. The Bison shot 43 percent from the field but committed 20 turnovers.

Senior Emily Anderson (Rocky Hill, Conn.) led all student-athletes with 25 points and she also snared seven boards for the Golden Bears, who outrebounded the Bison 35-31 and shot 46 percent from the floor. Classmate Paige Young (Berlin, Conn.) filled the stat sheet with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists while senior Sammie Battaini (Leominster, Mass.) went for 13 points (5-of-7 FG).

Anderson scored seven points in the first quarter to help the Golden Bears run out to a 22-13 lead. Cerrato scored six points in the second quarter to lead the Bison, but Western New England turned seven turnovers into seven points to extend its lead to 43-29 at halftime.

Anderson and Battaini combined to score 13 points in the third as the Golden Bears extended their lead to 62-44. Daniels scored seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter for NC.

All-Time Series
Tonight's contest marked the 43rd all-time meeting between Nichols College and Western New England. The Golden Bears have now won three-straight and lead the series, 25-18.
