Milton, Mass. - The MIT Engineers outscored the Trinity College women's basketball team, 17-6, in the second quarter en route to a 69-47 victory in the opening game of the Curry College Tip-Off on Saturday afternoon in Milton, Massachusetts. Trinity drops its season opener in sixth meeting between both teams, dating back to the 1975-76 season.

Trinity was led offensively by sophomore guard Rebecca Reifler (Garden City, N.Y.) who dropped in a career-high 11 points on 5-8 shooting to go along with a pair of steals, assists, and three rebounds. Junior forward Emily Llerena (New Milford, Conn.) chipped in nine points off the bench while first-year Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) led the Bantams with eight boards in her career-debut. MIT had three players in double-figures, paced by Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) who scored 18 points on 50% shooting from the field. 

The Bantams out-rebounded the Engineers, 36-27, but committed 24 turnovers of which MIT turned into 20 points. MIT also led the battle down low as they out-scored Trinity, 30-16, in the paint. The Engineers held just a six-point lead after the first quarter but exploded in the second frame to take a 34-17 lead into the half. Trinity narrowed the deficit to 54-32 with 7:51 left to play after a three-pointer by first-year Jessica Hom (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) followed by a layup from Reifler, but MIT responded with a 13-6 run which kept the game out of reach for the Bantams. 

Trinity returns to action tomorrow for day two of the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament when they face off against Pine Manor.
