FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball team had its best shooting day in 11 years and tied the school record for points in a 98-71 victory over Southern Virginia.
The Blazers shot 38 of 68 in the contest (.559) for the highest field goal percentage in a game since January 2005. The team's 38 field goals were the most since 2008.
Hood (2-2) exploited the Knights' full court press and outscored SVU on fast breaks 36-2. All of the easy baskets opened the door for 26 assists, the most since 2008.
Inside the Box Score
- Dajah Gee and Amanda Hackney each had career-highs in scoring to lead the Blazers. Gee poured in 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting, hitting a pair of 3-pointers. She tied Taylor McGaughey for the team-high with eight rebounds.
- Hackney got free for for several fast break layups and finished with 18 points. She went 6 of 10 shooting and 6 of 7 at the free throw line.
- Allie Appleby finished with 11 points and nine assists. In addition to setting a career-high in assists, she tied for the 10th most helpers in a game in school history.
- McGaughey added four steals.
How it Happened
- With both teams pressing from the outset, Hood led 26-21 after the first quarter. The pace slowed somewhat in the second quarter, but the Blazers extended the lead to 43-34 at the half.
- Gee opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer that sparked a 23-6 run. Gee scored seven points during the stretch, which resulted in a 66-40 lead with 3:17 left after back-to-back scores by Celestria Hill.
- The Blazers kept rolling in the fourth quarter, taking a 94-59 lead on a bucket by Deaja Colden with 3:04 to play.

- Hood's 98 points tied the school record from January 2001 in a win over Trinity (D.C.) (now Trinity Washington)
- Southern Virginia (1-3) committed 30 turnovers in the contest.
- Shelby Winsor led the Knights with 18 points and nine rebounds. The forward shot 7 of 15, but the rest of team went just 17 of 51 (33 percent).
- Alexus Barnes added 13 points off the bench.
- Hood held a 42-41 edge in rebounding. Of Hood's 98 points, 60 came in the paint, compared to just 36 for Southern Virginia.
