WOOSTER, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team led start to finish as the Pioneers defeated the College of Wooster 69-52 Tuesday (Nov. 22) evening. The win was Marietta's third straight road victory and improved the Pioneers to 3-1 on the season. Wooster falls to 1-3 overall.

Junior point guard Amisha Herd recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. She also dished out four assists. Jenna Andersen had 12 points and nine boards, while Shay Lett added 11 points. Alexis Enochs grabbed a career-best 12 rebounds.

Marietta scored the first six points of the game and a jumper from Herd midway through the first quarter extended the lead to nine points, 14-5. Wooster got within four points, 18-14, only to see the Pioneers score the final seven points of the period for a 25-14 advantage.

The lead remained in double digits for most of the second quarter. Wooster's Kylie Orr hit a three-pointer cutting the deficit to nine, 32-23, with 1:07 left. But buckets by Destiny Johnson and Shay Lett gave MC a 36-23 lead at halftime.

The Pioneers squashed any hopes of a Wooster comeback by scoring the first five points of the third quarter. A three-ball from Johnson with 4:30 left in the period gave MC its biggest lead of the night, 51-28.

Over the last several minutes of the third quarter and first minutes of the fourth, Wooster managed to trim 10 points off the Pioneer lead. A layup from Aki Shurelds made it a 13-point game, 56-43, early in the fourth quarter. Marietta answered with a 6-0 run to regain the momentum.

Lett put the final nail in Wooster's coffin with a three-pointer to extend the lead back to 20 points, 69-49, with 3:11 remaining.

Shurelds led Wooster with 16 points. Anna Gibbs finished with 11 points, while Akwia Tilton grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Marietta outrebounded the Scots 55-45. The Pioneers dominated the paint scoring 26 points in the lane. Each team committed 21 turnovers, but Marietta scored 18 points off of turnovers to just 11 for the Scots.

For the game, Marietta shot 38.8% (26-of-67) from the floor, 26.1% (6-of-23) from three-point range and 55.0% (11-of-20) from the free throw line. The Scots were 18-of-69 (26.1%) from the floor, 8-of-26 (30.8%) behind the arc and 8-of-16 (50.0%) at the line.

Marietta returns home to host the 32nd annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot sponsored by BSN Sports on Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 26-27). The Pioneers play Penn State Behrend in game on Saturday at 6 p.m. Bethany and North Carolina Wesleyan meet at 8 p.m. The Consolation and Championship games are set for Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m.
