FROSTBURG, Md. (Nov. 18, 2016) – The Rutgers University-Camden women's basketball team raced to a 9-2 lead and never trailed as it opened its season with a 73-58 victory over the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford in the opening round of the Jim Crawley Tournament here Friday night.

In the first game of the night, host Frostburg State University crushed York (NY) College, 84-29. The results set up Saturday's two games, as York and Pitt-Bradford will play a consolation contest at 1 p.m., while Rutgers-Camden will battle Frostburg State in the 3 p.m. title game.

The Scarlet Raptors scored the first five points of the game and then added four more points after the Panthers got on the board. After Pitt-Bradford cut its deficit to 10-7, Rutgers-Camden went on a 10-point run. The Scarlet Raptors led, 26-12, after one quarter and built their lead to 45-22 by halftime.

Freshman guard Fatimah Williams (Camden, NJ/Timber Creek) scored 16 points in the first half to lead the Scarlet Raptors, shooting 4-for-9 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the foul line. Junior center/forward Michelle Obasi (Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) added 13 first-half points as the Raptor co-captain shot 6-for-7 from the floor and 1-for-4.

The Scarlet Raptors led by 23 points, 60-37, after three quarters before settling for their 15-point victory.

Williams, in her first collegiate game, notched 20 points, one shy of game-high honors held by the Panthers' Shirleah Ragin (Mount Rainer, MD/Northwestern). Williams finished 6-for-12 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the foul line, while Ragin was 7-for-18 from the floor, including 2-for-7 from three-point range, and 5-for-11 from the line.

Obasi finished with a double-double in her first game of the season, giving her the seventh double-double of her career. She scored 18 points and hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds, while also blocking a game-high four shots.

Senior forward/center Caroline Santiago (Buena, NJ/Buena Regional) scored 12 points for the Raptors, while freshman guard Gabby Greene (Howell, NJ/Howell) notched 10 points and six assists. Junior guard/forward Cara Racobaldo (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) collected nine rebounds and a game-high seven assists.

The Scarlet Raptors shot 26-for-55 (47.3 percent) from the floor, including 17-for-31 (54.8) in the first half to build their big lead. Pitt-Bradford shot 21-for-69 (30.4) from the floor and held a 46-43 edge off the boards.
