Spartans Downed by Cold Outside Shooting in Lakeland Univ. Tip-Off Tourney

This weekend the University of Dubuque women's basketball team will compete in the 2016 Lakeland University Tip-Off Tournament. The Spartans opened the tournament Friday night and lost to Calvin College 55-68. UD's Emily Brinker pumped in 19 first half points en route to 25 points and five rebounds to lead the Spartans. A chilly night from the outside, hampered the Spartans when they connected on 1-16 attempts from beyond the three point area. The Spartans trailed by as much as 22 points before slicing the lead to 13 as time expired.

UD sank 22-71 attempts from the field (31%) and missed just two free throws, sinking 10-12 attempts (83.3%). The Spartans were out rebounded 39-45, but out scored Calvin in the paint 34-20. Thirteen Spartans saw action in the loss and nine contributed to the scoring column.

UD will play Mount Mary University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 in the consolation match. A winter storm advisory is in effect for the area on Saturday morning, so fans are warned to travel safely as anticipated blowing snow could cause near white out conditions.
