Nor'easters start strong in 83-46 win over UMF in Ramada Roundball Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England constructed a 35-point halftime advantage on the way to an 83-46 women's basketball victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Friday evening (Nov. 18) in the opening contest of the Ramada Roundball Invitational at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters (2-0) will face Regis College (Mass.) in Saturday's 3 p.m. event final, after the Pride rallied to edge Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) by a 58-55 margin in Friday's second game. The Beavers (0-1) are slated for the 1 p.m. consolation match against JWU.

Big Blue's defense limited UMaine Farmington to 20 percent field-goal accuracy during the first two periods, while forcing 17 turnovers that led to 24 points going the other direction. Eight different players tallied at least five points by the midway break, and the bench accounted for 28 of the 52 up on the scoreboard.

Sadie Nelson had 10 of her game-best 15 points for the hosts prior to intermission, and finished with three steals. Ashley Coneys went for 12 points and three steals, and Alicia Brown added 11 points to go with four blocks. Kristie McNall came in to contribute 10 points, while Olivia Shaw had nine and a team-high eight rebounds. Nelson, Coneys, Brown, and Sam MacDonald all collected five boards; Jocelyn Chaput dished out five assists.

For the Beavers, Morgan Crocker notched nine points and seven rebounds. Cheyenne Malloy had eight points in support, and Paige Carter pulled down a match-high 10 rebounds.
